Our New Vicar
We're delighted to announce that Fr Nicholas Johnson has been appointed as the next Vicar of St John's.
The Archdeacon of Liverpool, The Venerable Mike McGurk said:
“I’m really pleased to commend to you the Revd Nicholas Johnson as the next Vicar of Tuebrook St John. Fr Nicholas grew up in Bedfordshire before reading Law at Victoria University of Manchester. He was subsequently called to the Bar in 2006 and worked as a Solicitors Agent in the County Court while undertaking a Masters in Canon Law at Cardiff University.
Fr Nicholas discerned a vocation to priesthood before completing ordination training at St Stephen’s House, University of Oxford. He was ordained in 2017 within the Diocese of Manchester and has served his title firstly at St Mark with Christ Church Glodwick and then St Paul’s Royton.
Fr Nicholas is a priest with a great pastoral heart and holds the Mass and mission at the core of his priesthood. He brings a real sense of call to see a bigger church making a bigger difference in Tuebrook and beyond. Thank you all for your prayers during this time of discernment.
Fr Nicholas will be instituted to this new ministry on Thursday 24th June 2021 by the Bishop of Liverpool and the Bishop of Beverley and I very much look forward to being with you all as we welcome him to Liverpool.”
Fr Nicholas has sent the following message:
"I am delighted that my appointment has now been announced and that you all now know who your next Vicar is to be! It was some 14 months ago that I was able to visit St John’s for a Sunday Mass pre-lockdown. Since then, I have been eagerly waiting for the discernment process to reach its conclusion, and have been very impressed by what I have seen of all the work that you have been doing during the protracted vacancy, particularly at such a challenging time in our Church and Nation. I am very much looking forward to the feast of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist and the beginning of a new chapter in my ministry with you all at St John’s, Tuebrook. I ask for your prayers for me and the people in my current parishes as I begin to hand over my responsibilities here and prepare to move. I assure you all of my prayers and look forward to meeting you very soon.
May God bless you all,
Fr Nicholas will be inducted by the Bishop of Liverpool and the Bishop of Beverley on Thursday 24th June at 7:30pm, the feast of the Nativity of St John the Baptist. More details will follow in due course.
